I am passionate about restoring naturally youthful looks, using an array of cutting-edge surgical and non-surgical treatments to rejuvenate the face, tailoring treatments to each individual to achieve natural results. The first step is an in-depth consultation to explore your concerns, establish any medical issues, and find a treatment plan that works for you. Delivering treatment safely is my first priority.

I am available for oculoplastic surgery and aesthetic consultations and treatments at The Clinic Holland Park, West London.

“My aim is to help my patients to look and feel the very best version of themselves.”

Oculoplastic Surgery

Oculoplastic Surgery

  • An upper blepharoplasty treats drooping, heavy or fatty eyelids to ‘open up’ the eye area; a lower blepharoplasty tackles under-eye bags for a more youthful effect. You can have either or both, as required: treatment is aimed at those who have noticed excessive or sagging skin in their upper-eyelid area and/or lower-eyelid ageing (such as eyebags or fat pads), which have led to a tired or prematurely aged appearance.

An upper blepharoplasty takes approximately an hour and can be done under local anaesthetic in our purpose-built operating theatres at The Clinic. You will be able to recuperate in one of our discreet post-op recovery pods, before your final dressing checks and a clinic-concierge service to chauffeur you home. Downtime for upper blepharoplasties is approximately 1 week, after which there will be minimal bruising and you can resume wearing makeup and your normal activities.

After surgery, you will be given an antibiotic ointment to treat the area for the following week; and be advised to apply a cold compress to the area every few hours to help lessen post-operative swelling and bruising. A follow-up appointment with Ms Naughton to review your results and recovery takes place around 14 days after surgery at The Clinic Holland Park.

  • Correction of ptosis, or a drooping eyelid, entails surgery under local anaesthetic to tighten the eye’s levator muscle.

Incision and post-operative stitching are made in the eyelid crease, so no scarring will be visible once the eyelid is healed – any scarring will be hidden in the eyelid crease.

After surgery, you will be given an antibiotic ointment to treat the area for the following week; and be advised to apply a cold compress to the area every few hours to help lessen post-operative swelling and bruising.

Recovery takes approximately 7 days. A follow-up appointment to review your results and recovery takes place from 1 to 2 weeks after surgery.

  • Brow lifts can be performed as standalone surgery or as a complement to eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). Depending on the circumstances and goals of the patient, the main surgical techniques I offer are the internal brow fixation (aka browpexy) and the direct brow brow lift.

There are also a variety of effective non-surgical options for lifting the brow, including Sofwave and anti-wrinkle injections.

  • Ectropion can happen in one or both eyes, and can be an uncomfortable condition, where the lower eyelid droops down and turns away from the eye.

This exposes the surface of the inner eyelid and makes it prone to infection; the drooping eyelid can become sore, red and infected; or the eye might water excessively or feel gritty and dry.

Surgery to correct ectropion can be performed under local anaesthetic at The Clinic Holland Park, and takes approximately 45 minutes per eye. After the procedure, a protective pad will be placed on your eye, which needs to stay in place for the rest of the day. You will also be given a course of antibiotic drops to apply to the area to reduce inflammation and help prevent any infection. A follow-up appointment usually takes place within 2 weeks, at which Ms Naughton checks on your results and recovery.

  • Entropion can happen in one or both eyes, and is a condition that causes the eyelid (usually the lower eyelid) to turn inwards, towards the eye, so that your eyelashes rub against the eyeball and cause much discomfort.

Entropion can sometimes be the result of scar tissue in the area.

Surgery to correct entropion depends on what caused the entropion. Sometimes, a small injection of anti-wrinkle treatment in the affected eyelid can turn the eyelid out (results lasting up to 6 months). If the cause of the entropion is age-related, Ms Naughton will probably perform a blepharoplasty on the affected lid. This will help tighten tendons and muscles that have been affected by entropion; you will have stitches just below the lower lid or on the outside corner of the eye. Ms Naughton uses self-dissolving sutures in this procedure.

After surgery, you will be given an antibiotic ointment to treat the area for the following week; and be advised to apply a cold compress to the area every few hours to help lessen post-operative swelling and bruising. A follow-up appointment to review your results and recovery takes place from 1 to 2 weeks after surgery.

  • Reconstructive eyelid surgery is tailored to eyelid defect size and location and the specific operation performed is highly tailored to each individual. It is often managed with a multi-disciplinary team

  • A chalazion is a benign eyelid cyst that is either skin-coloured and hard to the touch, or red and swollen.

Chalazions are meibomian cysts; the meibomian glands make the lipid in your tears that lubricates the eye and prevents dry eye/evaporation.

These oil glands can get blocked, which causes an inflammation – a chalazion.

Chalazions are often mistaken for styes. A stye is a painful red abscess filled with pus, and is often caused by a bacterial infection at the root of an eyelash.

Sometimes, chalazions and styes can go away on their own, by being treated with the application of a warm compress to the affected eyelid; but if they are causing distress or are proving stubborn, chalazions and styes can be surgically drained under local anaesthetic in a simple procedure known as incision and curettage. The surgical incision is made on the inside of the eyelid, so any scar will be hidden from view. This procedure can be completed on the same day as your consultation.

  • Most eyelid cysts are benign and can be surgically biopsied or removed completely under local anaesthetic. Likewise, most eyelid moles are benign and can be surgically biopsied or removed completely under local anaesthetic; the procedure taking 10 to 20 minutes.

In line with best practice, any mole, lesion, lump or swelling on the eyelid or in the eye area should be thoroughly investigated. For this reason, samples of any eyelid moles or lesions will be sent for histological analysis (the fee for this will be included in your price).

Aesthetic Treatments

Aesthetic Treatments

  • Sofwave is an FDA-approved, completely safe, non-invasive ultrasound treatment that lifts, tightens and rejuvenates the skin while tackling fine lines and wrinkles. Sofwave uses next-generation Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam (SUPERB™) Technology, which is designed to treat the largest surface area possible while minimising discomfort and downtime.

Sofwave usually delivers visible results after a single treatment. Some clients will see immediate results, but usually improvements will begin to emerge after 1 week, as collagen and elastin regenerate. Real results will show between 6 and 7 weeks after treatment, and expect further, gradual improvement up to 6 months afterwards, as the skin becomes tighter, smoother and lifted. Results last for 12-24 months.

  • BBL is an abbreviation for Broadband Light phototherapy; HERO an acronym for High Energy Rapid Output. BBL HERO is an intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment, and currently the world’s most powerful IPL device on the market.

BBL HERO treatments are the fastest way to get rid of the visible signs of ageing on your face and body: neck, chest, hands, shoulders, arms, legs and more. This is a comfortable, low-to-no downtime ‘lunchtime’ procedure that can deal with all your red or brown pigmentary problems: age spots, redness, rosacea, or dull-looking skin, for example.

BBL HERO treatments are no-downtime, comfortable procedures, and can provide both targeted treatments and ongoing skin maintenance. BBL HERO is suitable for Fitzpatrick skin types I-V. Please note that BBL HERO cannot be used on Fitzpatrick skin type VI, nor on suntanned type V. Your skin type will be assessed before any BBL HERO to determine the wavelength settings necessary for your treatment. BBL HERO uses the latest IPL technology to target pigment (brown or red) within the skin. It is a non-invasive treatment that delivers BBL to the epidermis and dermis, stimulating change in skin tone, texture, elasticity and pigmentation. You will wear safety goggles throughout this treatment. Initially, pigment in your skin is darkened, which is the preferable result clinically, and helps you know that you have had an optimal treatment. Then, over time, your body’s natural healing process will remove the pigmented cells and replace them with new cells. Your brown spots and red patches will be replaced by fresh, undamaged skin. Visible, long-lasting improvements in sun damage and wrinkles can be discerned after just 1 treatment, and all with zero patient downtime.

After treatment, it is important that you: use a physical-barrier sunscreen of 30 SPF+ (with active ingredients zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide); limit your sun exposure; and wear cover-up clothing (to shield the treated areas on your body from direct sun).

  • Lighten, brighten and refresh with a Moxi™ facial treatment and ‘prejuvenate’ your skin. Use the latest in laser technology to revitalise and refresh your skin’s appearance, correcting uneven pigmentation and improving tone and texture on your face, neck, chest and hands.

Moxi delivers non-ablative laser energy to correct signs of sun damage and ageing, resurfacing the skin to improve texture, fine lines and wrinkles. The procedure is safe for any time of year and works on the majority of skin tones. Moxi is a laser treatment that fits into your active lifestyle because it has little-to-no downtime and simple aftercare – just stay out of the sun. And makeup can be applied 24 hours after treatment. This next-generation laser therapy is suitable for Fitzpatrick skin types I-V; unfortunately, it is not suitable for type VI nor suntanned type V.

  • An Anti Wrinkle cosmetic treatment is a simple, non-surgical procedure that smooths the deep, persistent facial lines that develop over time. One treatment – a few tiny injections – relaxes the muscles that cause those lines to form, and keeps them relaxed for up to 3 months.

Anti Wrinkle Treatments are a safe and effective treatment for eyelid spasms and facial spasms; and has been shown to be an effective, non-surgical treatment (in very low doses) for facial lines and wrinkles, if administered directly (via a few small injections) into the overactive muscles that cause lines and wrinkles to form.

  • Polynucleotides are a new biorevitalisation treatment for dull, sluggish skin, dark circles, fine lines and wrinkles.

Ameela is a new-and-improved formulation of Nucleofill/Nucleadyn. This new injectable, made from polynucleotides, works on a deep cellular level: to hydrate, moisturise, firm and contour the skin; stimulate collagen production; and reduce damage to the skin from free radicals.

Ameela Soft Eyes is an alternative to tear-trough filler. This injectable helps to decrease lower eyelid puffiness, volume loss, fine lines and wrinkles. It is safe on all skin types, and can be done in combination with other treatments.

Ameela Rejuvenation and Face are preparations used for the face and neck.

I usually advise a treatment programme of 2-3 sessions, spaced 2-4 weeks apart, with a review at 6 months after treatment.

  • Profhilo is a bio-remodelling agent, consisting of high-concentration hyaluronic acid, that is injected into the skin to treat skin laxity, boost and hydrate the skin, and remodel ageing and sagging skin.

Profhilo can be used on the face and hands, and is particularly good for treating crepe-like skin on the neck. It is neither a dermal filler nor a skin booster: Profhilo is termed a bio-remodelling agent.

Profhilo is injected into specific points in the area being treated, spreading under the skin like honey, resulting in increased skin hydration. It also stimulates the skin to produce more of its own collagen and elastin to smooth and tighten the treatment area.

Profhilo is advised for clients aged from around 30 upwards, because from this age we naturally start to lose collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.

  • Dermal fillers are a type of non-surgical aesthetic treatment used to add volume, structure and shape to the face, and to smooth out the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Dermal filler is injected into the soft tissue under the skin using a variety of techniques (depending on the desired result). The dermal fillers I use are all FDA-approved, hyaluronic-acid-based fillers, which mimic the natural hyaluronic acid that occurs in the skin. Hyaluronic acid has a number of important roles in the skin, including retaining moisture, and providing the framework on which our skin cells sit. When injected, the dermal filler combines with water in the skin to add volume, aiming to give a plump and youthful appearance.

    The main areas treated include:

Lips: to add volume, definition and smooth out the appearance of fine lines (often known as smoker’s lines)

Cheeks: to add structure to the cheekbone area, replace volume lost naturally as part of the ageing process, and even reduce the appearance of ‘smile lines’ by lifting the cheek

Tear Trough (under-eye bags): to reduce the appearance of hollowing and dark shadows under the eyes

    Nasolabial folds (smile lines)

    Mouth-to-chin lines (marionette lines).

Clients will see immediate results from dermal filler injection, with virtually no recovery time. Hyaluronic acid dermal filler is not permanent and will naturally break down over time; meaning that your tailor-made treatment can be adapted and tweaked over time to give you the best natural result.

  • Platelet rich plasma (PRP) treatments use the patient’s own blood – no other filler or chemicals – just your blood, centrifuged, as a dermal injection to improve the texture of your skin.

A fresh sample of your blood is placed in a machine that will centrifuge your blood to extract the plasma from the red blood cells. The plasma is then reinjected at desired areas of your body to rejuvenate the skin (such as under the eyes, on a receding hairline, or to target nasal-labial folds).

Your plasma is the ingredient in your blood that encourages cellular regeneration, including the production of fresh collagen; so injections of your own blood plasma will have an anti-ageing effect on the skin (or hair follicles) being treated, without any fear of an allergic reaction – the plasma, after all, has been extracted from your own blood and is therefore your very own, entirely natural ‘super’ ingredient.

Results are impressive, but are not immediate. Expect your skin to show signs of improvement from 2-3 weeks at the earliest; but the full effect will become visible within a month. Popular areas to be treated are the face, neck, chest or scars, as well as receding hairlines or hair partings that are becoming sparse.

Moreover, the treatment combines the benefits of PRP injections with microneedling, so that your entire face (or other treatment area) is saturated with your blood plasma and will reap the benefit of natural cellular regeneration.

  • Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT). It is an aesthetic medical procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny, sterile needles in order to induce tissue remodelling via the production of your body’s own collagen.

Microneedling has been shown to improve the appearance of skin texture, fine lines and wrinkles and scars – including acne scarring and stretch marks.

Based on your individual goals, I may recommend a course of procedures; a typical starting protocol would be 3 treatments spaced at monthly intervals. Maintenance might require multiple treatments.

The skin will appear slightly pink to red immediately after the procedure, similar to mild-to-moderate sunburn. The most common treatment responses are dryness, rough skin, tightness, redness, itching, peeling, discomfort, tenderness, and burning. These conditions should resolve over time without any further complications, and mostly within 24-48 hours.

Ophthalmology

  • Ms Naughton is a highly experienced Ophthalmologist, skilled in diagnosing and treating eye conditions that can cause disturbances or blurring of the vision.

  • Blepharitis is a common problem, presenting as an inflammation of the rims of the eyelids, with the eyes feeling sore, gritty and dry. Sometimes a dandruff-like crust forms along the lash line.

Blepharitis is often caused by a build-up of bacteria at the base of the eyelashes; or by a blockage in the oil glands of the eyelid; but it is also commonly found in people with skin conditions such as acne, rosacea, and dermatitis. There are multiple treatment modalities for this condition.

  • Dry eyes is a condition that causes the eyes to feel irritated, itchy and burning. The standard treatment includes instilling lubricant drops to ease some of these symptoms. Additionally, the use of punctal plugs, made of silicone, is an effective treatment. These plugs usually stay in place for 3 to 6 months.

A tiny punctal plug is inserted in the tear duct opening (punctum) of your eye, and is barely visible. This plug will block tear drainage and therefore allow the surface of the eye to retain moisture.

  • Epiphora is a condition that causes the eyes to over-produce tears and water excessively. Often age-related, it is a common ailment in the elderly, and often accompanied with symptoms such as blurred vision, sensitivity to light, soreness, redness, bloodshot eyes, and swelling of the eyelids.

Other causes of epiphora are from injury to the eye or a foreign body irritating the eye; allergies (such as hay fever or allergic rhinitis); infections and inflammation; and obstruction of the tear duct. Treatment (which ranges from medication to surgery) depends on the cause of the epiphora.

  • This is a common condition, which causes the eye to be ‘bloodshot’ with inflamed blood vessels, making the eyeball look red or pink.

There are multiple causes for conjunctivitis: viral, bacterial, or an allergic reaction. Ms Naughton will diagnose the cause and prescribe the appropriate treatment; usually eye drops.

  • Thyroid eye disease is the most common condition affecting the eye socket (orbit) in the UK. It is more common in females than males and is seen mostly between the ages of 20 and 60.

For the most part thyroid eye disease is seen in patients with dysfunction of the thyroid gland. This is usually secondary to the immune system (antibodies) acting against the thyroid gland resulting in an increase in thyroid hormones circulating in the bloodstream.

It can affect the eyes in the following way:

    • Puffiness and redness of the eyelids (lid swelling)

    • Eyelid retraction giving the staring appearance.

    • Dry eye symptoms due to exposure of the surface of the eye.

    • Movement of the eyes forward (exophthalmos) due to expansion of fat and muscle (further adding to the staring appearance).

    • Double vision (diplopia) or squint secondary to the eye muscle involvement

    • The eye socket may ache, particularly on eye movement.

    • Treatment is tailored individually, depending on the activity and severity of the condition.

  • Flashes and floaters happen because of changes in the vitreous, the clear, jelly-like substance that fills the inside of your eyeball. The vitreous jelly shrinks as you get older, and slowly pulls away from the inside surface of the eye. This shrinking and separation or detachment of the vitreous from the retina is a common phenomenon, particularly in people over 50 years of age, and causes no retinal damage in nine out of 10 patients. It is known as a posterior vitreous detachment.

Flashes and floaters rarely lead to any serious complications, so you generally don’t need any treatment for them. If they are troublesome, the effect of floaters might be minimised by wearing dark glasses. This will help especially in bright sunlight or when looking at a brightly lit surface. In many cases, the flashes disappear with time and the floaters get less noticeable as your brain adjusts to the jelly change.

New symptoms require a review to examine the retina at the back of the eye to ensure that the jelly separation has not caused a retinal tear or retinal detachment, which would require treatment.
