Tailoring Eyelid Surgery: A Bespoke Approach

Tailoring Eyelid Surgery: A Bespoke Approach

Introduction

Ms Aoife Naughton, a renowned consultant ophthalmic and oculoplastic surgeon, offers her insights into rejuvenation of the periocular area.

As an Oculoplastic Surgeon, I consult a lot with patient seeking blepharoplasty surgery.

Blepharoplasty is a popular and very effective procedure to address aesthetic concerns and functional issues relating to the eyelids. Unlike one-size-fits-all approaches, each procedure is unique and part of a bespoke approach, where treatment plans are tailored to meet the individual needs of each patient.

A Blend of Surgical and Non-Surgical Techniques

To achieve optimal results, I often combine surgical and non-surgical techniques. This versatile approach allows for more comprehensive and effective outcomes.

Surgical Blepharoplasty

  • Upper eyelid blepharoplasty: This procedure addresses excess skin and fat in the upper eyelid, creating a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

  • Lower eyelid blepharoplasty: This procedure can address bags under the eyes, prolapsed fat, fine lines, and sagging skin.

Non-Surgical Rejuvenation

  • Polynucleotides: These are natural substances that stimulate collagen production, improving skin texture, reducing fine lines and dark circles under the eyes.

  • Erbium laser resurfacing: This laser treatment can help improve skin tone, texture, and reduce wrinkles, through a controlled fractionated ablation process, which is safe and has a similar down-time to that of surgical blepharoplasty. For this reason, I often perform both simultaneously.

  • Non-surgical brow lift: There are non-invasive options including injection of botulinum toxin and the use of Sofwave ultrasound technology to lift and tighten the brow area.

Tailoring Treatment Plans

The specific combination of surgical and non-surgical techniques will depend on several factors, including individual patient goals, age and skin condition, underlying medical conditions and lifestyle. Combining surgical and non-surgical techniques allows for enhanced and longer lasting results. It also allows multiple aesthetic concerns to be addressed simultaneously.

If you're considering eyelid surgery, the best place to start is to arrange a consultation with a qualified oculoplastic surgeon to discuss your options and determine the best approach for your individual needs.
